Light green and open and holy felt
the world I was born into,
open and full of wonder.
It began before I could speak, when I was told
the workings of life, the movement of ions,
the habit of the birds in my window.
As a child, I found myself lost in the university basement.
I remember the light and the long tiled halls,
and the weight of it. There was something of a past there.
There was something of a future still in us.
Do you leave the microscope and look back around the BIOLOGY LAB?
