Enter into a dim hallway. Light slants from the windows above the door, and from the two or three ceiling lights still on in the evening. Some of it catches motes of dust, glaring into tiny reverse suns. The colors are soft: canary yellow, sea green, mauve. These tile walls do not match the posters haphazardly taped over them.
It is calm and quiet, in the way that anyone's footsteps would echo like gunshots. It seems a sin to disturb this place. After hours, a school still has many people in it. They are all supposed to be there. It seems that an intruder just being there, observing, taking in the peace, is disturbing this place.
On one side of the hallway is a door, propped wide open with a milk crate. The light from it seems to be coming in at the wrong angle. At each end of the hallway is a set of double doors.
